Maintenance tips for new towels to extend their lifespan

When you purchase new towels, you undoubtedly hope to use them for a longer time and save on hotel costs. Today, Ulencn.com will share some maintenance tips for new towels to extend their lifespan.

Avoid using excessively hot water and extended drying time when washing new towels. Tumble-drying inside the machine can make the hotel towels fluffier and softer, while hanging them to air dry won’t achieve the same effect. It’s best not to expose the towels to direct sunlight or use extremely high-temperature heat sources for forced drying.

Use a small amount of detergent to make the towels softer. Avoid pouring detergent directly onto the towels, as detergent residues can cause the towels to become stiff. Minimize the use of chlorine-based bleaching agents. Refrain from using fabric softeners frequently as they can reduce the towels’ absorbency. Wash dark-colored towels separately from light-colored ones.

Avoid washing towels together with items containing zippers, hooks, or buttons, as these items can damage the towel loops. Also, do not wash towels with clothing, as the towel loops can entangle and wrap around lightweight fabrics.

Leaving new towels in a damp environment for too long or not drying them properly can lead to mold and bacterial growth. Moldy towels become brittle and quickly break after drying. Over time, towels may also become stiff due to the accumulation of calcium and magnesium soap on the surface caused by the combination of soap with calcium and magnesium ions in water.

To make towels soft, you can try soaking them in about 3 kilograms of water with 20 grams of baking soda or an appropriate fabric softener for 10 minutes, and then rinse them several times with warm and cold water. For those who tend to produce oily residue on towels, washing them multiple times may not be effective. In such cases, soaking the towels in concentrated saltwater and rinsing them with clean water can refresh the new towels.
